WSL champions are out for revenge against first-time finalists
Manchester City take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the biggest domestic cup game of the women’s season today.
City, who claimed a second Women’s Super League title in their history earlier this month, arrive at Wembley Stadium as huge favourites to complete the league and cup double this afternoon.
They play a Seagulls side who stunned Arsenal in the quarter-finals, and then edged past Liverpool to book their place under the arch today.
Andree Jeglertz’s City, who confirmed that their star striker and WSL top goalscorer Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw was renewing her contract earlier this week, were 2-0 down in their semi-final against Chelsea, before their star striker netted a double, one in second-half stoppage time to force an extra half-hour, and then the winner in extra time to send her side to Wembley.
Staying put: Bunny Shaw
Brighton, coached by Dario Vidosic, will be playing in the biggest game in their women’s side’s history, having never reached a major cup final before.
They finished seventh in the WSL, and they have beaten today’s opponents already this term, with a 3-2 victory thanks to Madison Haley’s brace and Kiko Seike’s strike.
City won the reverse fixture in September last year by two goals to one.
TV channel: The game will be broadcast in two places, free to air on Channel 4, and also on TNT Sports 1, with coverage starting at 2.15pm ahead of the 3pm kick off.
Live stream: You can also stream the game for free on 4 On Demand, and TNT subscribers can stream the game live on the HBO Max app and website.
