Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a crunch Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund that could decide the fate of manager Thomas Frank.
The Danish manager is under significant pressure to turn things around, particularly after the shocking 2-1 defeat against West Ham United.
Tottenham fans are already calling for Frank’s sack, but the board has decided to grant him a stay of execution ahead of the game against Dortmund.
Anything other than a win later tonight could decide his fate, with Tottenham fans already turning on the former Brentford gaffer.
Tottenham have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions (D2, L5). However, the Champions League has surprisingly been a useful escape from their domestic mediocrity.
Frank’s side sit 11th in the League Phase ranking but are just two points behind third-placed Paris Saint-Germain, so they’re still in contention to secure a spot in the top eight.
The reigning Europa League champions have won three of their six Champions League games (D3, L2).
They were in imperious form in their last European outing, thrashing Sparta Prague 3-0 on home turf.
Frank will hope a return to Europe will provide the spark he needs to oversee a resurgence, but Dortmund will also be keen to secure a win to bolster their top-eight hopes.
At a time when Frank needs every help he can get, Tottenham have been dealt a double defensive blow ahead of the Dortmund clash.
Micky van de Ven is suspended, while Ben Davies is the latest to join Tottenham’s long list of absentees after fracturing his ankle against West Ham.
That means Kevin Danso will likely partner Cristian Romero at centre-back, while Pedro Porro and Djed Spence make up the back four in front of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall will likely anchor the midfield, while Randal Kolo Muani, Xavi Simons, and Wilson Odobert form the supporting cast behind striker Dominic Solanke.
