Huddersfield Town have set their sights on the former Bristol City midfielder

Huddersfield Town were unable to secure a play-off place last season as they finished eight points adrift of the top six.

The Terriers had a disruptive League One campaign, and were unable to sustain a push for promotion back to the Championship.

But the Yorkshire outfit will be targeting a play-off position, at the very least, next season, with their sights set on returning to the second tier.

Martin Drury has been appointed as the new permanent head coach after he oversaw the end of the campaign, with Jon Stead remaining on as his assistant.

Huddersfield are preparing for their third campaign in League One, having come 10th and ninth in the previous two years.

And it could be a busy summer ahead, with Drury and Stead looking to improve the squad during the transfer window.

It has been reported by Football Insider that Huddersfield are interested in signing Dylan Kadji following an impressive campaign with non-league side Wealdstone.

The Terriers are ready to potentially offer him a move up to League One, although they face competition from rivals in League Two.

Both Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town are also working on a deal to sign the former Bristol City player.

The 22-year-old signed for Wealdstone last summer from Weston-super-Mare, and he helped the team come 15th in the fifth division, contributing two goals and four assists.

His performances have caught the eye of the Yorkshire outfit, and he could now make the jump back into the EFL after coming through the academy system at Ashton Gate.

Kadji made just two appearances in the Championship for the Robins, both of which came as a substitute during the 2022/23 season.

The midfielder came off the bench in defeats to Birmingham City and Millwall in October 2022 before going out on loan to Swindon Town.

But Kadji now has interest from a number of clubs, with Huddersfield, Shrewsbury and Rotherham leading the charge for his signature.

He earned a lot of plaudits for his non-league performances last season, helping Wealdstone steer clear of a relegation battle.

And this could now lead him back to the EFL, with the chance to even potentially jump up to League One for next season.

Huddersfield have already confirmed the signing of Ashley Fletcher as a free agent following his exit from Blackpool, and they have until 1 September to complete any remaining deals.

Dylan Kadji signing might make more sense for Rotherham or Shrewsbury

Kadji has done well to reignite his career with impressive performances in the National League last season.

But the step-up to League One would be quite a jump to make, and it is unclear whether he is ready for that just yet, especially as he would likely be a secondary choice at Huddersfield.

A move to Rotherham or Shrewsbury might make more sense in the immediate term, as he would be more likely to earn his way to regular minutes at a League Two level.

But if the Terriers believe he has League One potential, then the relatively low cost of a deal would make him an appealing option to bolster their midfield.
