Despite Bolton's inconsistencies, they still have a few attacking tricks up their sleeves

Thursday night sees two League One sides on the periphery of the top-six in action, as Huddersfield Town play host to Bolton Wanderers in a high-stakes showdown at the Accu Stadium.

Both sides are arguably underperforming their pre-season expectations through the opening couple of months of the campaign, as plenty of critics had them both battling near the top of the division following disappointing top-six misses last time out.

There's still plenty of time for that to materialise, of course, and there have been lots of positives around both Lee Grant's and Steven Schumacher's sides in the opening stages of the campaign, but some inconsistencies see them both outside the play-offs ahead of the battle in West Yorkshire.

From a Bolton perspective, it's been their form at the Toughsheet Community Stadium which has exclusively brought their positives. They're one of three sides yet to lose in front of their home fans, scoring 13 times across the six games.

Unfortunately, away from home, it's been anything but good, losing three and drawing three of their six games and scoring just three times.

Despite this, however, the Trotters still have plenty of attacking firepower in their arsenal. Their results away from home have to improve at some point, and Lee Grant will have to be wary of the threats Bolton pose to prolong that first away win of the season for their opponents.

Huddersfield Town need to keep Mason Burstow and Amario Cozier-Duberry quiet in Thursday's clash against Bolton Wanderers

Steven Schumacher got his two loan arrivals at the top end of the pitch spot on in the summer, as both Mason Burstow and Amario Cozier-Duberry have arguably been the best in their respective positions so far this term, and can cause any opponent issues on their day.

Burstow, who joined on loan from Hull City, is currently in the form of his life, scoring more so far this season than he has at any other club. His seven goals currently have him atop the League One scoring charts, and he's netted in seven of the 12 divisional games so far for the Trotters.

An xG of only 4.74 and only one of his goals coming in the six-yard box indicate that the 22-year-old can be a threat across the pitch, and Huddersfield will have to ensure that they're switched on to nullify that threat on Thursday. That is, if they don't have their hands full while keeping Cozier-Duberry quiet.

The Brighton and Hove Albion loanee struggled last season in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers, but he's proven so far this campaign that he is levels above League One, gliding past opposition full-backs with ease.

He completes his dribbles at a 57.4% success rate, and his 35 successful ones are more than any other right-winger in the division. The 20-year-old is also a threat when cutting inside and letting fly from distance, taking more shots and hitting the target more than anyone in his position, too, with three assists and two goals under his belt.

Evidently, the duo can pose a massive threat to Lee Grant's back line, and Huddersfield will have to be on high alert to stop them both from making the impact they're both capable of at the Accu Stadium.

Bolton Wanderers can hit a stunned Huddersfield Town side on Thursday

Huddersfield won all four of their opening home games of the League One campaign, but since then, Lee Grant's side drew 0-0 against a struggling Burton Albion side before losing to 10-man Stockport County before the international break.

Bolton themselves are desperate for a response, too, after dropping points against the Brewers last time out, losing 3-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

Despite the Trotters' poor form on their travels early on in the campaign and Huddersfield's strength across their entire squad, it can be argued that those last two home results for the Terriers may have rocked Lee Grant's side slightly, leaving them open to a potential defeat under the lights on Thursday night.
