FLW's Huddersfield fan pundit shares their thoughts on Jack Rudoni's success since leaving for Coventry

Huddersfield Town will be spending next season in League One once again, having failed to sustain a meaningful push for the top six after a mightily disappointing campaign.

Optimism was through the roof at the ACCU Stadium at the beginning of the year, with Lee Grant appointed boss of the Terriers, whilst the signings of the likes of Alfie May, Ryan Ledson, Marcus Harness, and Joe Low brought a huge degree of excitement around West Yorkshire.

However, Grant would only last in the dugout until January, and was subsequently replaced by former MK Dons, Bristol City, and Norwich City boss Liam Manning.

Manning has toiled with off-field personal issues since arriving, and their form hasn't otherwise improved, with their recent 4-1 loss at home to Mansfield Town ending any lingering hopes of sneaking into the top six and capping off a miserable season.

Another summer rebuild is on the horizon for Huddersfield, who will surely be kicking themselves for watching one of their former players star for his current side on their way to the Premier League.

Jack Rudoni left Huddersfield Town to join Coventry City in the summer of 2024

Jack Rudoni joined Huddersfield from AFC Wimbledon in the summer of 2022 for just around £1 million, and would go on to spend two years in West Yorkshire, scoring seven and assisting eight in 84 appearances across all competitions from midfield for the Terriers.

He'd secure a move to Coventry City in the summer of 2024 for around £5 million, where he has since taken his game to the next level, becoming one of the best midfielders in the Championship and starring in the Sky Blues side that recently achieved promotion back to the Premier League after 25 years, where he is set to continue playing a key role under Frank Lampard.

Football League World's Huddersfield fan pundit, Graeme Rayner, has shared their thoughts on Rudoni's success with Coventry since leaving the Terriers, and whether it's a surprise to see how well he has done since.

Graeme said: "It surprises me that he's gone as far as he has, and it looks like he's going to be a Premier League player next year. But it doesn't surprise me that he's done one in the Championship because at times, for us, he was arguably one of our most creative players in a team that weren't particularly creative or doing very well.

"So for him to have gone to a club like Coventry, who were on the up, to have someone like Frank Lampard to learn from and to be given the freedom to really do what he does best, you know, that's why he's got results.

"For him to have been talked about the way he has, the sort of potential fees for future moves that have been discussed, and, you know, the fact that he's now up in the Premier League next season, it is a bit of a surprise, but fantastic for him, fantastic for him, so good luck.

"Hopefully, if he does get a move, hopefully we've sensibly inserted the kind of sell-on clause that will mean we benefit from it a little bit, but good luck to him, it'll be interesting to see what he does in the Premier League. It's a very, very different level, so he might struggle."

Huddersfield will be watching Jack Rudoni's success with a degree of envy

With the Terriers set to spend another year in the third tier, there will no doubt be a degree of frustration at watching Rudoni help to fire Coventry back to the Premier League.

Although they ended up getting a healthy fee for the English midfielder, given the success Rudoni has endured since leaving and Huddersfield's struggles, there will of course be some envy from those in West Yorkshire.

Terriers fans will be hoping a significant sell-on clause was inserted in part of the deal that saw him make the move to the CBS Arena, as Rudoni's stock continues to rise.
