Huddersfield Town's kit reveal has split opinion among the fan base

Huddersfield Town will begin their third straight campaign in the third tier, once again with expectations of getting back into the Championship.

The Terriers have been one of the more heavily-backed sides financially ever since their drop into League One in 2024, especially last season, when numerous Championship-quality players made the move to the Accu Stadium with expectations of their third-tier stay being as short as possible.

However, it's been back-to-back finishes outside the top six, and the pressure has been mounting on the higher-ups throughout the last year as the Huddersfield fanbase grows restless with false promises and underperformance.

They'll be hoping that this season proves to be different, and every decision that will be made in the meantime will be put heavily under the magnifying glass as the fanbase awaits on-field results.

The promotion of Martin Drury as the new head coach after a short interim spell alongside Jon Stead, while Liam Manning was on compassionate leave, divided opinion, but that doesn't seem to be the only offseason decision that has caused a rift amongst supporters.

As is usually the case with home shirts, they follow a similar pattern and aren't often tinkered with. For the Terriers, their main kit has blue and white stripes, and the only real variation year-on-year is how thick those stripes are.

Since the League One side switched kit providers to Castore ahead of last season, though, small changes have been made to those variations. Last year, Huddersfield's badge was all golden.

This season, the badge is back to its traditional colours, but there's a red tint down the blue and white stripes, and around the crest, marking the first significant bit of red on a Town kit since the 2009/10 campaign and the first time any red has been used since 2017/18.

It's definitely split opinion, with numerous Huddersfield fans flocking to the comment section on X in response to the shirt's reveal.

"I'm not one for knocking kits, it's all opinion, but I hate that," one fan wrote. "Not a fan. They did a great job last season but missed the mark here imo," said another, with a third stating, "Genuinely, take the red off, and it's a nice shirt."

Another Terriers fan replied with a mocking AI image of the shirt with American symbols and the Star Spangled Banner across the shirt, with the red, white and blue almost resembling the US flag, in their eyes, marking a further step in the Americanisation of the side under Kevin Nagle.

There were some positive replies, though, believing that it looks similar to the 1994/95 Pulse strip, which saw them win promotion out of the third tier.

"Am I the only one that actually kinda likes it?" questioned one fan. "That's a title-winning shirt if I've ever seen one," was also among the replies.

The discourse surrounding the Huddersfield Town shirt will all be secondary if Martin Drury's side finally secures promotion

Ultimately, fans are happy to give opinions and criticise or praise decisions made by the club, but all of that will start to fade into the background once the season starts again, and we see how well Huddersfield performs under Martin Drury.

If the Terriers finally achieve their goals and match the expectations set out for them by neutral fans and critics alike, then it won't really matter what shirt they win in, as the overarching feeling will be positivity towards what is happening on the pitch.

Plus, if the results on the field start improving to the point where promotion becomes a reality, that will ultimately be what the shirt is remembered for, rather than the red lines on it.

Only time will tell whether the shirt will be synonymous with a good campaign, but for now, it's not being given a unanimously positive reception, and it could go down as a bit of a missed opportunity to get some fans who are starting to lose faith back onside ahead of what's going to be an important year at the Accu Stadium.
