Hugo Ekitike said he would able to play alongside Alexander Isak as the pair compete for minutes at Liverpool.

Ekitike joined Liverpool in a high-profile transfer earlier this summer, when it seemed as though Newcastle would refuse to sell Isak.

But the Swede eventually got his move to Merseyside, leaving Arne Slot to fit two high-profile strikers into his side.

They are yet to share the pitch, but Ekitike is looking forward to the first time they do so.

“How it works with Isak? Good question,” he told the press from Istanbul, speaking ahead of a Champions League clash with Galatasaray.

“We play at such a big club, they cannot have only one striker, so it is good he is here, I still have a lot of things to improve and learn.

“That is for the coach to decide who plays, it's not up to me. I played with two strikers before and one striker, so I can do a lot of things, so if we have to play together, I can.”

He continued, adding he was looking forward to bouncing back from his sending off against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

The Frenchman was shown a second yellow card for taking off his shirt while celebrating a late Carabao Cup winner over the Saints, with Slot branding the move “needless and stupid”.

“I think it wasn't smart,” Ekitike admitted.

“I finished myself alone, I would say, so I feel disappointed to watch the boys from home.

“But I apologised to everyone already, my team-mates and that kind of thing won't happen again so I move on and focus on football.”
