Hugo Souza has been called up by Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil’s March friendlies, replacing the injured Alisson Becker. According to Meu Timao, the Corinthians goalkeeper could now miss Brasileirão duty.
Brazil face France on Thursday 26 March at 17:00 Brasília time at Gillette Stadium in Boston, United States. They then play Croatia on 31 March at 21:00 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
With Alisson out, Hugo will compete with Ederson of Fenerbahçe in Türkiye and Bento of Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
As the CBF have not released the league schedule after the window, it is unclear if he will be available to meet Fluminense on the base date of 1 April. If the match falls a day after Brazil’s game, he could miss the Maracanã trip. In that case Dorival Júnior is expected to turn to Kauê Camargo, 22, as next in line, with Felipe Longo still recovering from an elbow injury.
Hugo was omitted from the initial list issued on Monday, his first absence since May 2025. Under Ancelotti he made all four previous squads, starting once in the 3-2 loss to Japan on 14 October, and he was cut in November through injury.
The coach had said the goalkeeper selections were not closed, maintaining Hugo’s hopes of a World Cup place if his form improved. This is the final camp before the definitive squad, expected on 18 May, shortly before Brazil travel to the United States.
