Hugo Souza: Proud to be idolised, aims for more trophies at Corinthians

Timão defeated Flamengo 2-0 in the battle for the Supercopa Rei trophy, which brings together the champions of the previous year’s Brasileirão and Copa do Brasil. It was the third title won by Hugo Souza, who has been with Corinthians for less than two years, but still does not consider himself a club idol despite the achievements in such a short time.

“Corinthians is a club that has become a club of my heart. And I am very happy because what this club, with its fans, has done for me, and how they embraced me, I think there’s no way to give that back, except with trophies, being a champion, a third title in a year and a half. That’s three finals, three titles. We are very happy, I am very happy to write each chapter and this wonderful story they are building.,” commented Hugo Souza after the final whistle.

In this Supercopa Rei title, Hugo was not as challenged as in the Paulistão victories, when he saved a penalty in the final, and in the Copa do Brasil, when he was again decisive in the semifinal and made a great save in the final. With these outstanding performances, he is starting to make his mark in Corinthians’ history.

“I think I will never position myself that way (as an idol). I think it’s a feeling that comes from the fans, it’s a feeling from the people watching from the outside, from the connection we have with the fans. I can’t call myself an idol or not, but I’m very happy to have built a story. I said I wanted to build a story for the club step by step, and God did much more than that. These are three very important titles, three titles that are part of history. I think one thing I am sure of is that I am in the club’s history, that I can say.,” said the number 1.

“I really want to keep winning with this jersey, I really want to keep building a story. That’s why it makes me dream again, I will keep dreaming this way. There’s a World Cup coming up soon, and I really want to be there. And only Corinthians will give me the opportunity to be there.,” he added.

Now, Hugo Souza continues training with the squad for the rest of the season, which is just beginning. The People’s Team faces Capivariano next Thursday, for the Paulistão, at Neo Química Arena, starting at 8:30 pm (Brasília time).
