Hugo Souza said the World Cup pause has been crucial for Corinthians to absorb Fernando Diniz’s ideas after a 1-1 friendly with FC Cascavel.
On Sunday the side drew 1-1 at Estádio Olímpico Regional in a warm-up arranged for the inter-season period. According to Meu Timao, the goalkeeper highlighted intense double sessions as the squad work to return in the best shape possible.
Corinthians had not played competitively since 30 May, when they beat Grêmio 3-1 in Porto Alegre in the 18th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The players then had a break before resuming at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava on 25 June, giving Diniz his first extended training block since taking charge in April.
The club scheduled only this one friendly during the hiatus, unlike other Série A sides that arranged two to four matches. Asked about match sharpness, Souza said the priority for now is taking on board the head coach’s methods.
