Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana praised Elliot Anderson’s development after two seasons at Nottingham Forest as the £116m midfielder completed his move.

According to Nottingham Post, City have officially unveiled Anderson at the Etihad after his transfer from Forest was confirmed while he was with England at the World Cup, and he has signed a five-year contract.

Anderson joined Forest from Newcastle United for £35m in July 2024. He helped them finish seventh in the Premier League and qualify for Europe in his first season, then reach the Europa League semi-finals last term.

He was also a key figure as England reached the World Cup semi-finals this summer. “Elliot is one of the outstanding young midfield talents in world football right now,” said Viana.

“He offers energy, outstanding work rate and an exceptional range of passing. His improvement in recent years has been really impressive and underlines his desire to be the best player he can be."

Anderson said City are one of the biggest clubs with a squad strong in every position, and that he was determined to make the move once they made their interest clear. He wants to test himself at the highest level, believes the club provides the ideal environment and will work to establish himself after a break, aiming to repay the faith shown in him.
