Hull City aim to raise around six million pounds in player sales before the end of June to stay within financial rules, with a points deduction before the season starts a possibility if they fall short.
Hull won promotion last month by beating Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final, their first Premier League return since the 2016-17 season. According to Sunderland Echo, the newly promoted club must satisfy existing profit and sustainability rules, which permit losses up to £39million over three years, before the month ends.
The Championship is moving to a squad cost ratio, allowing spend up to 85 per cent of revenue, but that does not change Hull’s current obligations. Failure to comply could bring disciplinary action before the season begins. Hull were placed under a two-window transfer fee embargo last summer due to late payments relating to loan signings.
Owner Acun Ilicali has said the club have overspent and must sell before the start of July, but views the task as manageable and believes Premier League status has lifted player valuations. He added that some players already know they will not feature next season.
Hull are not expected to offload their leading names at this stage, with focus on those outside their top-flight plans. Mason Burstow, Kasey Palmer, Abu Kamara, Enis Destan, Abdus Omur, Thimothee Lo-Tutala and David Akintola could draw interest.
Sunderland and other newly promoted or lower-half Premier League sides are likely to track developments, since any pre-season punishment could quickly reshape the survival picture.
