Fabian Hurzeler says a striker is close to a training return and has urged Brighton to keep grafting before Roma visit the Amex on Saturday. As reported by TheArgus.co.uk, the head coach was satisfied with work in Austria and wants further steps this week.
Albion are back in England after a week in Austria that featured a 4-3 friendly win over Strasbourg. Lewis Dunk, Costinha, Carlos Baleba, Zadok Yohanna, Steven Hall and new defenders Michael Svoboda and Luke Vuskovic watched from the stands at the Austrian FA headquarters near Vienna. Some players stayed home while 22 got minutes against the Ligue 1 side.
Hurzeler described Saturday as intense and hot, and praised the squad for suffering together and showing resilience. He said last week built a foundation, and the focus now is on small details to improve.
He felt the camp helped integrate new signings and saw injured players edge back towards the group, with others continuing work at the training ground.
Kaoru Mitoma has returned from rehab in Japan and has started running. Hurzeler said all of Mitoma, Evan Ferguson and Stefanos Tzimas are in rehab, and he thinks Tzimas is the closest after moving to on-pitch work. He added that Ferguson is making daily progress.
Hurzeler believes Brighton are in a good place but stressed the need to stay humble and keep pushing. Roma provide another opportunity to take the next step.
