During the press talk ahead of the Bundesliga match against FC St. Pauli, Eberl took the opportunity to publicly pay tribute to Kompany on the occasion of his 40th birthday. The 52-year-old not only emphasized Kompany’s sporting qualities, but above all the coach’s personality

„We have tried to assess what he has done in his coaching career in sporting terms. What he did at Burnley and Anderlecht were incredible seasons,“ explained Eberl. The sporting director was particularly impressed by the way Kompany manages and structures his teams

„But the way Vinny plays soccer, the way he sets up his team, we have recognized that and tried to adapt it to our squad,“ continued Eberl. But it’s not just the sporting component that is impressive – Kompany also sets standards on a personal level: „The way Vinny combines coach and person is extraordinary!“

Eberl describes the Belgian as approachable and open, but also clear in his ideas: „As a person, he is always nice, open to everyone and approachable. But he knows exactly what he wants and how he wants it on the pitch.“
