Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has labelled the mistake made by Josh Acheampong against Leeds an “absolute shocker.”

Chelsea threw away a 2-0 lead on Tuesday evening as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, which ended their four game winning streak.

Joao Pedro gave Chelsea the lead with a brilliant finish before Cole Palmer doubled the lead from the penalty spot, his fourth goal in the last two games.

However, Chelsea self destructed in six second half minutes, with Moises Caicedo giving away a penalty, whilst they made a catalogue of defensive errors for Noah Okafor’s equaliser.

Acheampong, who was handed a rare start at centre back, was one of the players at fault for the equaliser, and Merson branded his mistake an “absolute shocker.”

“Acheampong should clear,” he said whilst covering the game on Sky Sports.

“[Robert] Sanchez comes out and gets nowhere near it.

“It’s an absolute shocker, I cannot believe what I’m watching.”

Chelsea reportedly turned down big money for Acheampong in January, whilst Crystal Palace were believed to be interested in a January move.

Rosenior is a big fan of Acheampong, and he should be handed another opportunity on Friday as Chelsea travel to Hull City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Liam Rosenior frustrated with Chelsea decision making

The dropped points were made all the more frustrating because Chelsea arguably played the best football they’ve played under Rosenior for 65 minutes.

The Blues were linking up well in attack and producing nice combinations in midfield, but they let themselves down with two poor errors.

Rosenior bemoaned poor decision making, and it’s something he needs to get on top of as Chelsea have thrown away 17 points from winning positions this season.
