Charlton Athletic have enjoyed a successful season in League One under Nathan Jones.

The Addicks are still in with a chance of achieving a top two finish ahead of their visit to promotion rivals Wrexham this weekend, and they have the play-offs to fall back on if they are unable to close the gap during the remaining games.

Joshua Friedman and Gabriel Brener, the two major shareholders in the club, were in attendance as Charlton beat Northampton Town at The Valley earlier this month, and they will no doubt be pleased with how things have gone overall since their arrival in SE7 in the summer of 2023.

Nathan Jones described the club as a "different animal" to what it was when he was appointed in February last year, as per London News Online, and revealed that he speaks regularly with the owners.

"We were 18th in League One. Now we are fourth," he said.

"If we continue that progression then imagine where we're going to be in four or five years' time.

"I speak to them (the owners) regularly anyway. Great to see them. They were here a year ago - they now have a different animal of a football club to look after. We are very proud of that."

Charlton seem to be in a good place on and off the pitch

We asked our Charlton fan pundit, Emma Harknett, whether she is confident that the owners have the club's best interests at heart.

"Yeah, I do feel the owners have got the club's best interests at heart," Emma said.

"The figures came out from the previous season and the club is losing a lot of money, yet the owners have still made improvements on and off the pitch.

"There have been improvements at the ground, there have been improvements at the training ground, and we did bring in some players, albeit not maybe what everyone expected us to bring in, but obviously, with the club losing what it is losing, the owners are not going to pump loads of money in. Attendances have been down as well.

"I do think they have our best interests at heart, and it will be interesting to see what they can do if we get promoted. Obviously, we will have the Championship money, so whether they invest that in the squad will let us see how serious they are about keeping this club going forward.

"It is going to be a really interesting year with the owners, that is for sure."

Promotion would be the icing on the cake for Charlton

It has been a long time since it felt as though there was this much unity from top to bottom at The Valley, and promotion to the Championship would be the perfect way to maintain the club's positive momentum.

Charlton have been one of the most in-form sides in the division in 2025, so they should have plenty of confidence that they can reach the Championship, whether that be via the play-offs or with an unlikely top-two finish.

Regardless of whether they go up, the club's owners will no doubt want to build on what they have achieved during their time at the club so far, and considering both Nathan Jones' and Emma's thoughts on them, it would be no surprise if they continued to impress.
