FLW's Hull City fan pundit has been speaking on whether owner Acun Ilicali has the club's best interests at heart.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Hull City have endured a highly disappointing season in the Championship this term.
The Tigers fell just short of achieving a play-off place last season, finishing seventh and just three agonising points outside the top six.
However, after numerous star players such as Jaden Philogene, Liam Delap, Ozan Tufan, Fabio Carvalho and Tyler Morton all departed the club at the end of the season, as well as manager Liam Rosenior, City just haven't been able to build on their success from last season.
Tim Walter's reign was short-lived, and now Ruben Selles' side are just about treading water at the foot of the division - which is not a position that club owner Acun Ilicali expects his team to be.
We asked our Hull City fan pundit, Ryan Frankish: 'Are you confident City's owner, Acun Ilicali, has the club's best interests at heart?'
Frankish said: "Yes, I think our owner does have the club's best interests at heart.
"I think he shows that by the amount of money he's spent, and the way he's always tracking FFP (Financial Fair Play), because he wants to put in as much as he can without pushing the boundaries.
"But, I think when it comes down to the recruitment and some of the decisions that have been made from him, I think the heart is there, but the knowledge isn't.
"I think we've got a better structure now, as we've got Jared Dublin stepping into the sporting director role. So he'll have a big say in what happens.
"But bar that, I think he absolutely does, it's just his decision-making has made people question that at times.
"But I don't see how you can, when to most of these people the most valuable thing in the world is money, and he's prepared to chuck a significant amount of his at the club we all love."
Having bought the club in January 2022 for a reported £30m, Ilicali certainly hasn't been afraid to put his money where his mouth is at the MKM Stadium.
However, despite a strong season last term, Hull have largely failed to make the sort of progression the Turkish businessman would have been hoping for upon purchasing the club.
One of the key factors behind the Tigers' poor campaign this season has been the relative lack of a return on their investments, particularly in the winter transfer window.
Therefore, regardless of whether the club is in the Championship or League One next season, this upcoming summer transfer window has the feeling of being a hugely vital one, and perhaps the biggest of Ilicali's tenureship as owner so far.
Should they get their summer of spending right, it could set them up to have a real go for promotion in either division next term. Get it wrong, however, and Hull City may well set themselves back considerably when it comes to seeing through Ilicali's vision for the club.
