Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has urged EFL clubs to pounce on Millwall striker Macaulay Langstaff.
A highly discussed name in recent weeks regarding a summer move is Millwall's Macaulay Langstaff, who managed just 14 starts for the Lions after joining from Notts County last year.
BristolLive reported that several sides across the EFL are interested in securing the signature of Langstaff, who netted 28 goals in League Two for the Magpies before his Championship move.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman weighed in on the striker's situation.
"It will be difficult for me to name a specific club that could particularly do with Macaulay Langstaff," said Goodman when asked if there is a club in particular in need of his services. "He is another player who will be keen to get minutes and regular starts."
"I felt sorry for him, actually, last season. It was a massive step up from League Two to the Championship. He managed to make 14 Championship starts and score just the one goal, so he did find it difficult," said Goodman.
However, he was keen to emphasise that all hope is not lost when it comes to Langstaff potentially finding his goalscoring form again: "But, I do think that the gap between League One and League Two is much smaller than that between the Championship and League One."
"You look at his goal record at Notts County, 70 goals in 96 games, obviously a large portion of those are in the National League, but as a goalscorer, you don't just forget how to put the ball in the back of the net."
With a move potentially on the cards, Goodman added: "If someone can take him and get his confidence up, and get him back among the goals, he would be useful for any team."
After making the move from Gateshead in the summer of 2022, Langstaff made a name for himself at Notts County, scoring an incredible 41 goals and providing seven assists in 47 games during his first season at Meadow Lane to help the club to promotion from the National League via the play-offs.
Langstaff's fine form continued in League Two in the 2023-24 season as he netted 29 goals and registered four assists in 49 appearances for the Magpies, and he did not only finish as the top scorer in the fourth tier, but he was the leading marksman across the whole of the EFL.
That was enough to earn Langstaff a move to the Championship as he joined Millwall last summer for a fee of £700,000 plus add-ons.
However, he had a frustrating debut season with the club, and there are question marks surrounding his long-term future at the club, despite it being suggested that he wants to stay and fight for his place at the Den.
And when it comes to sides in both League One and League Two, Langstaff should be at the top of everyone's lists.
Even after a poor season at the Den, the 28-year-old's goal record speaks for itself. A proven talismanic figure for Notts County, Langstaff would be a statement signing for all sides looking to climb to either the second or third tier.
