Hugo Ekitiké will be in familiar surroundings when Liverpool travel to face Olympique de Marseille in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
The France international began his career at Stade de Reims before moving to Paris Saint-Germain, however, speaking to Canal Plus, he has revealed an admiration for Les Parisiens’ fiercest rivals, OM.
“I am excited to play this match (against Marseille). Marseille are a club that I have watched since I was young… as well as Paris. I love the Vélodrome,” said Ekitiké. The Frenchman has played at the stadium twice, once while at Reims, as Les Stadistes secured a 1-1 draw, thanks to Ekitiké’s goal, and once while at PSG as the reigning European champions were knocked out of the Coupe de France (1-2).
“It is a magnificent stadium with crazy supporters. I think I’ll be welcomed well. There is no hate. I have always liked Marseille,” added the Liverpool forward. Coming into the UCL encounter, the penultimate of the ‘League Phase’, only three points separate Liverpool, currently in ninth, from OM, who are in 16th and on nine points from their first six games.
