The Blues slumped to a 5-2 in the fist leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, and face an almost impossible task in the return leg on Tuesday.

Chelsea were in the game at 2-2, but finished poorly as they conceded three goals in the final 15 minutes to all but put the tie beyond reach.

Liam Rosenior bemoans Chelsea’s lack of calmness

The 5-2 scoreline arguably didn’t reflect the performance, but once again Chelsea only have themselves to blame, following more defensive mishaps and individual errors.

Filip Jorgensen made a big error at 2-2 which put the Blues 3-2 down, but Chelsea should have shut the game down and taken a one goal deficit to Stamford Bridge.

However, they didn’t respond well to the setback and imploded, and Rosenior has bemoaned the inability stay calm after suffering a set back.

“I need us to maintain our calm in the moment when we have setbacks. This is on me,” he told his post-match press conference.

“It’s not a blame of the team. It’s something that we’ve spoken about from my first day coming in, about reacting positively, about staying calm in moments and it’s not happened. That’s why it’s on me. That’s not pointing the finger of blame at the players.

“The intensity of our press, some of our football, some of the chances we created was outstanding. If we don’t overcome this hurdle, we won’t reach our potential and it’s my job to find the answer to it.”

Defensive issues highlighted once again

As has been the case for the majority of the season, the Blues were once again let down defensively in the French capital.

The lack of control in games in under Rosenior is also a concern, as well as the inability to manage in game situations.

Rosenior has taken responsibility, but ultimately it’s down to him to find the answers and rectify it as the same mistakes are being made week in week out and costing Chelsea massively.
