The last night was a good one for FC Barcelona, as they returned to winning ways after some dismal performances. The Blaugranes got a 3-0 victory over the French side Brest in the UEFA Champions League, and once again looked like a side that can compete for the biggest trophies in Spain and Europe.
Several Blaugrana players displayed a very good level in this game, including the likes of Pau Cubarsi, who was the MVP for this game, and Pedri, who also had a very good game.
However, this game was truly memorable for one player in particular, the veteran striker Robert Lewandowski. The Pole scored a brace in this game and with these two goals, he has now surpassed the 100-goal mark in the UEFA Champions League, thus joining the esteemed duo of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in this very exclusive club.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Barcelona superstar expressed his delight at reaching such an amazing number of goals in the UCL:
“It’s not just history. I’m very, very happy. Years ago, I never thought I could score more than 100 goals in the Champions League. We won 3-0, and in the end, I was able to score another goal. We’re very happy.”
The veteran goal-scorer also commented on his team’s performance in this game
“It’s a very good thing, but in the end, we played as a team. Sometimes we’re a bit lacking in patience and move a little too slowly, but today we played with focus and patience. In the end, we could have scored more goals.”
However, he wanted his team to continue building on this performance in the domestic league as well: “We have to keep looking forward, not just in the Champions League but also in La Liga.”
Having reached this milestone, Lewandowski will now have his sights on Messi’s record of 129 goals. It will be a tall task for him to reach this number, as he is already 36 years of age, and does not have many years left to play at the highest level, but with the form he has been showing this season, one cannot truly rule him out from reaching this record.
