Enzo Maresca has apologised to Chelsea for the disruption his exit caused for the club.

Maresca made the shock decision to resign from his role as Chelsea manager in late December, despite a successful 18-month spell at Stamford Bridge.

It was revealed that Maresca had received an approach from former clubManchester City, about the prospect of replacing Pep Guardiola at the end of the season.

Maresca has now beennamed Manchester City manager on a deal until 2029, with the Cityzens agreeing a compensation package with Chelsea.

The Italian said he is ecstatic to return to the Etihad as head coach, but apologised to Chelsea for the manner of his exit.

He admitted his sudden departure contributed to a difficult campaign for Chelsea, who ended thePremier League season 10th to miss out on European football. His replacement, Liam Rosenior, was sacked after only 106 days in charge.

"At the end of December 2025, I made the difficult decision to leave Chelsea," he said.

"The decision was only mine. My resignation from Chelsea opened a path for me to join Manchester City, which is a club I knew very well. I am ecstatic that I have now joined Manchester City.

"I recognise that my departure from Chelsea in the middle of the season caused disruption for the club and I apologise for that. It was neither my intention nor my wish.

"I was treated well by everyone at Chelsea and together we achieved great success and memories that I will always treasure.

"I am grateful to the club, the owners and the fans for giving me the opportunity."
