Sheffield United have shown no signs of a hangover from last season despite a brutal relegation from the Premier League that saw them concede a record number of goals.

The Blades sit second in the Championship currently, level on points with table toppers Sunderland, behind the Black Cats only on goal difference.

Chris Wilder's side would be top of the league if they had not been deducted two points before the start of the campaign, however, they have shown resolve in recent weeks to get themselves back on track after a difficult two-game spell following the last international break in October.

Sheffield United supporters will be looking forward to the return of their team against Coventry City, with a fifth win in a row on offer.

Prediction made on Sheffield United's finishing position

In recent seasons, the Blades have been promotion specialists in the Championship, finishing in the automatic spots in two of their last three campaigns in the second tier. 2024/25 brings hopes of making that three in four.

Wilder has a special touch at Bramall Lane, and while they did struggle massively last season despite him coming back to the club, he has built a squad more than capable of competing at the very top of this division - renewing confidence that supporters may have lost.

With just under a third of the campaign gone, Football League World has asked their Sheffield United Fan Pundit, Jimmy from Blades Ramble, where he honestly thinks that his side will finish in the Championship.

Filled with confidence, he said: "I'm going to say in the top two, and if you'd asked me after the Middlesbrough game, I would have probably said play-offs, we looked like a play-off team at that point.

"But since then, we've won four on the spin, and it's not just because we've won four in a row, it's the manner in which we've done it. We've gone to Bristol City, who are undefeated at home, and we've beaten them. We've gone to Blackburn, who are undefeated at home, and we've beaten them."

Jimmy continued: "We've beaten our bitter rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, at home. Although they're not in the best of form, that is a huge hurdle of a game for us as a club.

"We've got 10 clean sheets out of 15 games, we look so solid at the back. I think it's all lined up to be a promotion challenge this season and I don't just mean the play-offs, I mean the top two."

Sheffield United supporters have every right to be confident

The last few weeks of the campaign have shown just how strong this current Sheffield United team is, and they more than have enough to carry on with their promotion push long into the season.

Only Burnley have conceded fewer goals than the Blades in 2024/25, and Wilder's team has been built off an incredibly strong backline. The addition of Michael Cooper in goal has been an excellent one, and he has commanded his defenders brilliantly.

The Yorkshire club are also very active in the opponent's box, registering 396 touches in that area of the pitch, the third-highest in the Championship, and it is this constant pressure on their opposition that has seen them win 10 of their 15 games this seaosn.

With the likes of Gustavo Hamer, Harrison Burrows and Oli Arblaster in the team, Sheffield United are well-equipped for a promotion battle, and there is a strong chance that they will be in with a shout of an instant return to the Premier League come May.
