Although he is already 37 years of age, the FC Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski continues to play at a very high level, and the latest manifestation of this came only in the last league game of the Blaugrana club against Celta Vigo, in which he scored a hat-trick.

However, his advanced age means he has only a limited time to continue playing at the highest level in Europe, and being in the last year of his contract with Barcelona means his future is currently highly uncertain.

In fact, the Pole himself admitted that his career is nearing its end in a recent interview with TVP Sport. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Polish veteran shared that he will make a decision about his future soon:

“I will soon be ready to decide which path I want to take, and I will see what my options are,” he said, emphasizing that he is taking the process calmly. “I am relaxed. I don’t know where I will be or what I will want to do in a few months. I don’t have to do anything, and I’m not in a hurry.”

Since joining Barcelona in 2022, Lewandowski has scored 108 goals in 159 appearances, cementing his place as one of the club’s most prolific forwards. Reflecting on his career, he noted that the move to Barcelona and adapting to a new culture have offered him fresh perspectives.

“The move to Barcelona and life in a different culture also changed me. The birth of my daughters began to break the shell that had formed over many years.”

Playing alongside Barcelona’s young talents, including teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, has given Lewandowski renewed energy and motivation:

“It excites me a lot to know that at Barcelona there are many young players over 18. They give me an energy boost. I feel very good among them. I remember when I was a teenager and what I was doing at their age. I am older than some of my teammates’ parents. They treat me like a father. It’s curious, but very positive.”

Reflecting on last season, Lewandowski highlighted both individual and team achievements. He scored 42 goals, contributing to Barcelona’s victories in La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, and the Copa del Rey:

“It is an individual competition, and I play a team sport. Sometimes the team helps us win goals or titles. Last season was very successful for me. I scored many goals and won several trophies, which confirms that my level of play was very high.”

The veteran striker also revealed how his approach to football has evolved over time:

“After so many years at the highest level, with pressure and expectations, there were moments when I needed an external stimulus. I had to reconnect with new emotions. Over time, I gained a new perspective on many things. My career is approaching its end, but as long as I play football, I want to make the most of it, not only in sports but also emotionally. I want to enjoy the moment and make the most of it.”

Looking back, Lewandowski admitted that earlier in his career, he often had little time to savor his successes:

“For many years of my career, there wasn’t even time to enjoy it. My motivation and focus would decrease, and then it became harder to achieve new successes. I started with that idea, but in my maturity, I see it differently. I am glad it will end and that I won’t be able to go back to it.”

There is no doubt that this Barcelona team has a very good balance of youth and experience, and the role of veterans like Robert Lewandowski is crucial in guiding his younger teammates. However, for now, it remains to be seen how his future will pan out, and whether he will still be playing for the Blaugrana club next season.
