Liam Rosenior has claimed he would’ve booed the Chelsea team off at half-time had he been a fan after their terrible first half performance against West Ham.
Chelsea were 2-0 down at the break and were loudly booed at Stamford Bridge, before an incredible comeback saw them win 3-2 thanks to an Enzo Fernandez goal in the 92nd minute.
On the win, Rosenior said: “My biggest learning is there’s a spirit and a fight and a resilience in this group that I really, really like. I’ve demanded from the first day of stepping in. We don’t have many training sessions, but we spoke about reacting positively to setbacks.
“We’ve spoken about reactions to losing the ball, pressing, energy, intensity. All of that was there in the second half, which wasn’t there in the first half. I don’t put that just down to the changes I made. It’s very difficult. We’ve had so many games in a short space of time.
“I was fearful of a lack of energy… The reaction of the team in the second half tells me that we’ve got something really, really special here if I can utilise the squad in the correct way.”
The atmosphere amongst fans was very negative in the first period and it escalated at half-time with the boos.
The Chelsea manage didn’t blame the fans for their reaction though: “I have to say the fans were magnificent in the second half. I could sense after two minutes of the second half they were with us. They were right to boo.
“I would have booed us in the first half. Our performance was nowhere near the level it needed to be collectively in terms of our energy and our decision-making. That’s fair.”
The fan reaction was completely different at full-time though, after the incredible comeback.
Rosenior has now won six of his first seven games and next up is the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Arsenal, in which Chelsea are trailing 2-3 on aggregate.
