Ian Poveda has been banned from driving for six months after being caught at 100mph in a 70mph zone.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 26-year-old Sunderland winger was stopped by a police officer who saw him speeding in a black Range Rover on the A184 in South Tyneside at around 8.45am on Sunday 23 February 2025.
The officer signalled for him to stop and Poveda pulled over immediately. He did not attend the hearing at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court. He previously played for Leeds in the Premier League and made 25 appearances across four seasons.
Prosecutor Brian Payne told the court the Range Rover accelerated away on the A184 dual carriageway and was travelling well above the limit, suggesting about 100mph in a 70mph zone. Defence solicitor Janice Hall said the speeding lasted only a very short time.
Poveda already had nine points on his licence from three previous speeding offences. Magistrates added six points and imposed a six-month ban under the totting up procedure.
He admitted the offence and was fined £800, with a £320 surcharge and £600 costs.
