The words “upon review” from referee Chris Kavanagh will go down in history for Gunners legend

Ian Wright revealed his reaction to West Ham's late equaliser against Arsenal being ruled out, jokingly comparing the referee's verdict to the words of Martin Luther King.

Callum Wilson lashed in a strike deep into stoppage-time and West Ham had seemingly snatched a pivotal point to impact the situation at both ends of the title.

However, a VAR review, which took almost five minutes and saw referee Chris Kavanagh watch 17 replays at the pitchside monitor, eventually led to Wilson's goal being ruled out for a foul on David Raya by Pablo.

Arsenal held on to win 1-0 and move five points clear of Manchester City, even if Pep Guardiola's side do still have a game in hand. Should Mikel Arteta's side beat Burnley and Crystal Palace, they will be champions.

That was a huge relief to Wright, who was working as a pundit on the match for Sky Sports and going through all the emotions when Kavanagh returned from the monitor to announce to the stadium that the goal would not stand.

"Listen I'm not a big fan - I'm not a massive fan of VAR," Wright said. "But in this instance and what you saw, it did the job.

"The sweetest words since Martin Luther King's 'I Have a Dream' if I'm going to be totally honest!

"When that goes in, the first thing you're thinking is please let something have happened in there.

"And then you look back at it and his arm is across him, for me it was an easy one to give in such a tense moment.

"Everything flashed in front of me. Not great stuff. Things flashed and you're thinking we might have blown it."
