In a recent interview with Canal 11, Fernandes said he was not valued at United and felt like he was on "thin ice" at the club.

There were strong rumours linking the 31-year-old with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer, but he eventually rejected the switch.

However, Fernandes has now revealed that he believes United wanted him to leave but were not brave enough to say so.

Wright believes United made a mistake in not making it clear how important Fernandes is to them and said he would want Arsenal to make a move for him if an Old Trafford exit did materialise.

"It comes back down to the Manchester United indecisiveness," Wright said on The Overlap.

"Someone's come in for Bruno, you shut that down. Because Bruno didn’t want to go. Bruno is saying they said to him, 'well, it’s up to you if you want to leave'.

"That’s not what you want to hear from someone like him who's literally holding the club up himself.

"You want the club to say, 'you’re not going nowhere, you’re a massive part of this'. But Man United didn’t do that. They gave him the opportunity to say, 'if you want to stay you can stay, if you want to go, you can go'.

"What is that saying? I would take him [at Arsenal] tomorrow."

Fernandes has scored five goals in the Premier League this season and leads the way for assists, sitting top of those standings with seven.

While Fernandes has no doubt that head coach Ruben Amorim wanted to keep him at United, the midfielder is adamant the club's hierarchy were keen to cash in.

"It gets to a point where, for them, money is more important than anything," Fernandes said.

"The club wanted me to go, I have that in my head. I told the directors that, but I think they didn’t have the courage to make that decision, because the manager wanted me. If I had said I wanted to leave, they would have let me go."
