FLW's West Brom fan pundit has given his verdict on potential transfer interest in Isaac Price
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
West Brom are one of just three sides in the Championship to have won both of their opening fixtures.
The Baggies earned victories over Blackburn Rovers and Wrexham to reach six points from a possible six.
One key figure behind those two wins was Isaac Price, who contributed three goals across the two fixtures.
The 21-year-old has been a standout performer from the early stages of the new season, with West Brom setting their sights on a promotion push this year.
When asked if Price’s performances might trigger transfer interest, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess expressed his confidence the midfielder will be with the club until at least January.
He believes the sale of Torbjorn Heggem should mean that no major player sales are needed before 1 September, meaning they have a strong negotiating position if interest is shown in the Northern Irishman.
“I think if we’d not just got a decent fee for Torbjorn Heggem, I would be fearful that the major sale that’s been discussed, that Albion need to do so much this transfer window, would end up being Isaac Price leaving for a big fee,” Burgess told Football League World.
“But having sold Heggem, I think that leaves us in a good standing to keep our better players, such as Price himself, [Tom] Fellows, [Josh] Maja, etc.
“But if Albion have not been able to get promoted in the next few years, then it’s definitely a scenario where we can see him getting picked up by a Premier League team in the future, if he keeps up his really good start to the season.
“Because he’s definitely destined to play in the Premier League with playing so well at such a young age.
“We can definitely see him playing for a decent team in the top flight.
“He came through the academy at Everton, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to them to look at him in the future, potentially bringing him back, because he’d suit their style of play to a tee with how they’re utilising Doucoure in the last few seasons.
“But I think for now I’d definitely be surprised if he’s not an Albion player until at least January.”
West Brom can make it three wins from three when they face Portsmouth at home on 23 August in their next league game.
The sale of Heggem has given West Brom a strong negotiating position if interest arises in any of their other top stars.
Price’s performances could generate interest given he’s made a flashy start to the new campaign, but he also has a contract until the summer of 2029.
Albion should be confident of being able to keep him beyond the current window, even if he keeps up this level of performance in their next couple of games as well.
