AS Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has suggested that Manu Kone will leave the club amid reports that Manchester United have agreed a deal for the midfielder.
Manchester United are rumoured to have reached an agreement on personal terms with Kone, who is set to be allowed to leave Roma for a fee of £45m.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the Red Devils are pursuing Kone as a potential defensive midfield option, alongside Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga and other options.
United have added Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to their midfield group, but remain keen to sign a number six. Liverpool have also been linked with Kone and are long-term admirers of the midfielder.
Kone was a key figure as Roma securedChampions League qualification last season, though looks likely to depart. The Serie A side must make sales to remain compliant with UEFA's financial rules.
Roma manager Gasperini has confirmed the club's need to 'balance the budgets' and admitted Champions League football is not enough to prevent sales.
"He didn’t play with the France national team last year, but now he’s been able to claim a starting spot. It shows his potential and the work he’s put in,"he said.
"The financial fair play conditions are never exactly precise or defined, they vary from team to team. It’s undeniable that Roma know that we have to balance the budgets, which has been tough in recent years.
"I’d hoped that entry into the Champions League would have been enough, but budgets are important for clubs and must be respected. I think there will be more clarity in the coming weeks."
Kone's future is set to be decided following France's exit from the 2026 World Cup. The 25-year-old was introduced at half-time as France lost 2-0 to Spain in their semi-final on Tuesday night.
