The Thai businessman has been at the epicentre of the controversy surrounding the South Yorkshire club this summer, with unpaid wages for players and staff, one stand having to be closed due to safety measures and a transfer embargo being just the tip of the iceberg.

Wednesday kicked off their campaign with a late 2-1 loss away at Leicester City despite taking the lead, with midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah and right-back Yan Valery limping off injured in the match, whilst captain Barry Bannan was sent off for two bookable offences.

Despite this, Wednesday gave a good account of themselves and backed up that performance by knocking out League One Bolton Wanderers from the League Cup on penalties after a 3-3 draw away from home.

US Businessman John Textor, who holds stakes at Brazilian club Botafogo, French side Lyon and until very recently Premier League club Crystal Palace, has been flirting with the notion of purchasing Wednesday from Chansiri, but no agreement has been found as yet.

Chansiri values the club at around £100 million, according to The Sun, which is considerably more than what the American has yet been willing to offer.

With a threadbare squad, a stand in desperate need of repairs and no signs of incomings anytime soon, FLW has decided to take a look at what Wednesday would be worth today if Chansiri sold the club, with the help of AI...

AI values Sheffield Wednesday at roughly £30-50 million

ChatGPT has valued Wednesday at the £30-50 million mark, under half of what owner Chansiri is looking for to part ways with the club.

However, this only includes Wednesday as an asset and does not take into account Hillsborough Stadium, which Chansiri also owns, as part of that valuation.

Chansiri bought Hillsborough in 2019 from the previous owners for around £60 million to ensure the club was in profit and did not breach spending rules.

If taken into account both club and ground, ChatGPT values the pair to be worth a combined £45-80 million, so still way off of the mark as to what Chansiri will be hoping for.

It is difficult to mark exactly how much Sheffield Wednesday is worth

With Chansiri setting a £100 million asking price on the club, it is difficult to see anyone coming in and paying that amount, meaning it surely cannot be worth that asking price.

In the end though, a football club is only worth as much as what someone is willing to pay for it, so it's almost impossible to put a fixed price on any club, let alone the Owls.

Wednesday is a club with a rich history; they have been champions of England on four occasions, won 3 FA Cups, a League Cup and a Community Shield, as well as winning promotion from the second tier as champions five times.

There are few clubs in the current Championship that can boast a trophy collection, as large a fanbase and pedigree as Wednesday can, making them an attractive proposition for any buyer that doesn't balk at Chansiri's asking price.
