The Blues got dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday night after a 3-0 loss to PSG, with the holders advancing to the quarter finals 8-2 on aggregate.

Chelsea fans were seen leaving Stamford Bridge in their thousands during the second half, on what was a real low point for the Blues under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.

Owen Hargreaves on Chelsea season

Chelsea were totally outclassed by Luis Enrique’s men, and focus now shifts to ensuring there will be Champions League football at the club next season.

The Blues currently six sixth one point behind Liverpool in fifth, and three behind Aston Villa in fourth, whilst they have an FA Cup quarter final against Port Vale next month.

It’s been an awful week with two defeats to PSG, and the loss to Newcastle, whilst Reece James also suffered a hamstring injury.

Rosenior has got to somehow re-galvanise the group and salvage something from the season, and Hargreaves has stated what he thinks would be a success.

“If they can win the FA Cup and finish in the top five, which would mean the Champions League, they’ve had a good season,” he told TNT Sports.

“But if you look at those fixtures, City, United, Brighton away, Forest and Spurs fighting for their lives, Liverpool away, Sunderland away, really difficult fixtures.

“They’ll do well to finish in the top five. They need to turn it around, this is not on Liam. But they need to fight.”

Chelsea have a real chance in the FA Cup

Chelsea haven’t won a domestic trophy since the FA Cup in 2018 under Antonio Conte, but this season there’s a real chance of making the final.

The Blues host League One side Port Vale in the quarter final, and a win would set up a trip to Wembley in the semi finals.

Whilst the club desperately need Champions League football, the Blues also need to get their hands on domestic silverware, and in a season of real lows, it would be very Chelsea to walk away with a trophy.
