Iker Varela remains sidelined with left biceps femoris injury | OneFootball

The club said in a statement that medical tests identified a myotendinous injury to the biceps femoris in Iker Varela’s left leg, adding that his recovery timeframe depends on how the problem evolves.

Varela played 71 minutes against Córdoba on 21 December and has not featured since. He has missed the first two fixtures of the year, against Eibar and Almería.

He has already spent two weeks on the sidelines. Such caution is typical, with clubs reluctant to set firm return dates.

If it were a moderate grade II tear, he could face a further two to four weeks out, with physiotherapy needed to reduce the risk of a setback. More severe damage could mean several months.

The player on loan from Athletic had earned greater trust and minutes under Jesús Galván. With Antxón Muneta now in the dugout, whether he regains a starting role in the second half remains to be seen.
