Iliman Ndiaye has rejected multiple new contract offers from Everton, according to The Athletic.
The Toffees star is a key player under manager David Moyes, and they want to reward him with an improved contract.
Ndiaye has three years remaining on his current deal, and there is no exit clause.
Ndiaye wants an exit clause included that could be triggered as early as this summer before reaching an agreement.
However, Everton want to protect the value of one of their best players and ensure they dictate the timing or price of any potential future exit.
It is unclear if either party will be willing to shift ground, but Ndiaye is not pushing to leave Everton right now.
The club are expecting suitors to come calling in the coming weeks, especially if the versatile forward impresses for Senegal at the World Cup.
Everton could demand €80 million from suitors to deter them.
He has been an influential player for the Merseyside club since joining them from Marseille in July 2024, bagging 17 goals and three assists in 71 appearances.
His ability to beat his marker in one-on-one situations, due to his exquisite dribbling skills, is one of his major strengths.
Moyes led Everton to a 13th-place finish in the Premier League this season, missing out on qualification for Europe by four points.
They will look to finish in the top seven next term, and need to hold on to Ndiaye and other top players to boost their chances.
