Ilkay Gündogan among investors seeking Montpellier stake via GSS | OneFootball

Ilkay Gündogan is among the investors linked to a Montpellier stake via the GSS investment fund, according to L'Équipe.

GSS is moving towards an agreement to enter the club’s shareholding. Montpellier have not yet made the fund’s involvement official.

The English fund is leaning on Gündogan and on American Daniel Karbassiyoon, 41, a former player for Arsenal, Burnley and Ipswich Town in the 2000s.

Gündogan, 35, is a former Germany international who retired in August 2024. He played for Borussia Dortmund from 2011 to 2016, Manchester City from 2016 to 2023 then 2024-2025, and Barcelona in 2023-2024.

He now plays for Galatasaray. In 2025-2026 he has made 38 appearances, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
