The season is almost over and the final day game against West Brom at Hillsborough is selling out of tickets. It could be a huge couple of weeks for Sheffield Wednesday, with the opportunity to get out of minus points but also regarding the takeover as well.

For some time now, May 1st has been seen as the date for Wednesday and David Storch to work towards. That date is rapidly closing in and is just one day before what could be a party atmosphere against the Baggies.

Owls supporters are hopeful that Storch's wish regarding the timescale ends up being correct. They have suffered plenty in 2025/26 but it would be some light for them at the end of a dark tunnel. It would provide some optimism and a platform for 2026/27 as well.

Football League World spoke to our resident Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna for his immediate reaction to the latest information that confidence is growing that a Sheffield Wednesday takeover could be completed in time for the West Brom game.

With talks with Dejphon Chansiri's reps ongoing, progress also being made with the EFL, it's not done, but all very positive. We asked for his immediate reaction and if he is excited by the latest developments.

He said: "In regards to this takeover, obviously everything isn't completed and it's not over the line just yet.

"But with this news here, it's just positive news, I suppose. If they get this completed in time for the West Brom game, which is now pretty much sold out, then wow — what an atmosphere that will be.

"I'm astounded that talks are going on with Chansiri. That is one thing I never thought would happen. If somehow they have managed to engage him on the deal, then that is massive.

"If they're able to make progress with the absolutely useless EFL, then that's more good news. Yeah, as I said, this sounds positive. It is hard not to get a bit excited with it. You still do have to remember that we are Sheffield Wednesday.

"Good things don't happen to us, so let's not just get carried away yet. These revelations are the sort of ones you want to hear and hopefully the good news keeps coming and the takeover gets over the line."

Sheffield Wednesday's potential under David Storch

Sheffield Wednesday fans have big plans for the West Brom fixture on the final day already but a takeover would mean a carnival atmosphere for them as Storch’s proposed takeover could mark a genuine turning point for Sheffield Wednesday.

After years of stagnation under Chansiri, they have since regressed. His tenure has been marked by financial uncertainty, points deductions, transfer embargoes, and a total disconnect between ownership and supporters.

On the pitch, that instability translated into relegation, inconsistent recruitment, and a lack of clear long-term strategy. For a club of their size and stature, they have been wasting the club’s potential and infrastructure.

A successful takeover will offer the reset Wednesday desperately need. With proper leadership and planning, there is a real opportunity to awaken what remains a sleeping giant of English football. Leicester City may also be in League One next term, but no one is bigger historically than Wednesday in the third tier.

The foundations are all there for Storch. The fanbase, history, and stature. It won't take much to get the fans onside as they have simply been mismanaged. Storch and his consortium represent a chance to finally unlock this football club's potential.
