Isak finally completed his move to Liverpool on Monday before the transfer window shut, joining for a British record fee of £125million.

It brought an end to the summer’s most protracted transfer saga, with Isak on strike during the opening weeks of the new Premier League season.

Burn has admitted how he is glad that the saga is now over, with Newcastle replacing Isak by signing strikers Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.

The defender insists there is no bad blood between himself and Isak, who is set to make his Liverpool debut next week against Burnley.

“Look, I am glad it’s done,” said Burn. “I think we wanted the transfer window to close, just to have a bit of clarity on it.

I wish Alex all the best, apart from when we play Liverpool, obviously!

Burn on Isak

“Listen, I have been in football long enough to understand that for a player, their careers are short and they have got things that they want to achieve.

“So, for me, I am happy that it is over. Alex is a mate, so it was a tough situation because you want him to be around and helping the team - but also understanding what he needs to do personally.

“I have got nothing but good wishes for Alex, no animosity. Listen, as a Newcastle fan, and you know what Newcastle fans are like, we are very protective of our club and city.

“You want players to be there who want to play for Newcastle. You don’t want them to sort of naively think that there is anywhere else to go apart from playing for Newcastle.

“So, I understand why our fans were frustrated, but as I said, I think I have been in the game long enough now to understand what goes on.

“And I wish Alex all the best, apart from when we play Liverpool, obviously!”
