QPR suffered a major injury concern during their 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough on Tuesday night
Martí Cifuentes has confirmed that Ilias Chair suffered a hamstring issue during QPR’s defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
The Morocco international was substituted after 55 minutes, just moments before Michael Carrick’s side took a 2-0 lead that the London outfit could not overcome.
Chair has been a crucial figure for the Hoops in recent years, so his potential absence in the coming weeks will come as a blow.
Steve Cook pulled one back for QPR in the 80th minute, but it was not enough to salvage a result from the game as the side suffered a fourth league loss in a row.
Cifuentes has confirmed that Chair had to be taken off with a hamstring issue in the early stages of the first half.
He is unsure to what extent the attacker has damaged himself, with the club waiting for the result of scans before they get a timeline of his potential recovery.
"I'm very concerned, he felt his hamstring immediately and we have to do some tests, but usually these kind of situations it's going to take some time, but we'll do some scans and see what it is," said Cifuentes, via the BBC.
Chair has contributed two goals and six assists from 25 appearances in the Championship so far this season.
QPR have now lost four in a row in the league, which has ended any hopes they had of being able to realistically compete for a play-off place.
There are now nine points between Cifuentes’ side and Middlesbrough, who are eighth in the table.
The gap to the relegation zone is also nine points, with QPR unlikely to be dragged into the battle to avoid the drop with only nine games remaining.
Next up for Rangers is a home clash against promotion-chasing Leeds United on 15 March in a 12.30pm kick-off.
QPR don’t have too much left to play for this season other than pride, but losing Chair amid this poor run of form will hurt.
Nobody wants to end the campaign on a low point, but the Hoops are in danger of that given their form and the small number of games that remain.
Cifuentes will be hoping that Chair’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared, but he could be out for the next four to six weeks at least if he has injured his hamstring, maybe even longer.
