Indalecio “Inda” Bonet, 54, will perform Spain’s national anthem live before Sunday’s World Cup final against Argentina in New York. The Vila-real trombonist, a member of Spanish Brass, packed his bags after a Friday call and flew on Saturday.

"We are going to play the Spanish national anthem in the ceremony just before kick-off. In the other matches the anthems were recorded, but for the final they want them live with musicians on the pitch," he told El Periódico Mediterráneo.

The musicians will take part in a full rehearsal and learn the event protocol. "More than nerves, I feel excitement. It may be one of the most important and most interesting moments of our career," he said.

The news came so fast he has not even told friends in Vila-real. "I found out today and, as I do not live there, I have not been able to mention it. They might discover it through the media or on television," he said.

He does not consider himself very football minded, though he watches Villarreal when he can. "Being able to enjoy such an extraordinary event is a stroke of luck," he added.

His wish for the final is clear. "I hope Spain win. I think they have had a great World Cup, from less to more, and I am sure they are going to win. What is certain is that it will be a great final."

Founded in 1989, Spanish Brass have performed in more than 60 countries. The quintet comprises Juanjo Serna and Carlos Beneto on trumpets, Manolo Pérez on horn, Indalecio Bonet on trombone and Sergio Finca on tuba.
