Crowd disorder at Atanasio Girardot marred Independiente Medellín v Flamengo in the Libertadores group stage, with significant damage recorded.
El Tiempo reports that local authorities confirmed nine people were detained, including a minor.
Rádio Blu said three supporters were taken to the Protective Custody Centre, and three others were charged by the Metropolitan Police.
RCN described the scenes as a global disgrace and counted 113 seats broken or burned, 13 sinks, nine urinals and one toilet destroyed, plus three security cameras at access points. It also said nine aluminium barriers, a fire-fighting booth and a door to the North sector were damaged.
The hosts, in a turbulent spell, faced protests and were booed before kick-off, with organised groups dressed in black and faces covered. As the game was about to start, explosives and flares were thrown towards the pitch, and a fire began in the stands.
The teams left the field on the referee’s orders with a little over five minutes played. With the 45 minute waiting period exceeded, the match was cancelled.
Conmebol’s disciplinary commission has opened a case. Independiente Medellín is expected to face sanctions as the home club responsible for security, although clubs have not yet been notified to submit their defences.
