Infantino confirms Iran will play 2026 World Cup group games in United States | OneFootball

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said Iran will be at the 2026 World Cup and play their group matches in the United States, as set by the December draw, despite the Iranian federation’s request to switch the games to Mexico.

He delivered the update on Tuesday in Antalya, Türkiye, where he attended Iran’s friendly against Costa Rica and met team officials, coaching staff and players.

During the interval he praised the side’s strength and expressed satisfaction with what he had seen.

After speaking with the players and head coach, he said preparations were on track.

The clarification followed Iran’s request to play their group fixtures in Mexico for a finals running from 11 June to 19 July, with the original plan remaining in place and no change to the assigned venue.
