The international break led to the usual dings and bruises, fortunately without major injuries, but also allowed some players previously on the mend to recover as Serie A is primed for its first busy stretch of the season.
Francisco Conceiçao returned from Portugal with a minor thigh problem and is questionable for the Derby d’Italia, Sky reports. Edon Zhegrova announced he wouldn’t be available to work on his conditioning. Mattia Perin and Juan Cabal have ramped up following a hand surgery and an ACL tear.
Amir Rrahmani suffered a low-grade biceps femoris strain and will sit out at least Fiorentina-Napoli. David Neres, who skipped the last game due to muscle fatigue, and Miguel Gutierrez, who’s completing his rehab from an ankle surgery, could be back. Albert Gudmundsson tweaked the same joint while playing with Iceland and is a late call.
Rafael Leao is poised to miss his third straight Serie A contest due to a calf issue that turned out to be more severe than anticipated. Roma’s Wesley picked up thigh and knee ailments with Brazil, but he trained with the group afterward. Gianluca Scamacca is questionable due to knee soreness, while Ederson will be out for a while after a procedure in the same area. Lazio might not have Manuel Lazzari and Nicolò Rovella in the next round due to mild muscular injuries.
Bologna lost both Tommaso Pobega and Ibrahima Sulemana for a while due to a thigh strain and an MCL sprain, respectively. Cagliari’s Zito Luvumbo and Como’s Ignace Van der Brempt will miss a month due to thigh lesions. Assane Diao will realistically return from a relapse of his foot problem after the next Serie A break.
