Bad news for the FC Bayern women’s team just before the start of the competitive season: Two key players, Franziska Kett and Edna Imade, will be sidelined due to injury. Both sustained ankle injuries during preseason training.

Just a few weeks before the start of the new season, the FC Bayern women’s team has suffered a major setback. As the German double champions officially announced on Friday, Franziska Kett and Edna Imade were injured during preseason training and will not be available to coach José Barcala’s team for the time being.

Both players suffered ankle injuries and, according to the club, will be sidelined for “several weeks.” As a result, both German national team player Kett and Spanish forward Imade will miss the season opener.

Injuries at the worst possible time

The injuries come at a particularly inopportune time for the Munich team. The first competitive match of the new season is already scheduled for in two weeks. On August 15, FC Bayern will face last season’s runner-up, VfL Wolfsburg, in the Super Cup. The match will be played in Ingolstadt, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Just a few days later, the new season in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga also kicks off. The defending champions will open the season on August 21 with an away game at Union Berlin. The match will be broadcast live on ZDF, DAZN, and MagentaSport.

The loss of Franziska Kett, in particular, is a major blow. The national team player has become one of FC Bayern’s key performers and was expected to play a central role in the new season as well. With Edna Imade out, the Munich team is also missing a dangerous offensive player who had made a strong impression during preseason.

FC Bayern has not specified how long both players will actually be sidelined. The club merely referred to a break lasting “several weeks.” As a result, the duo is likely to miss not only the Super Cup against Wolfsburg but also, in all likelihood, the Bundesliga opener. For head coach José Barcala, this means having to find personnel solutions right at the start of the season.
