Real Madrid are once again facing a familiar problem – a defensive injury crisis.

With crucial fixtures against Getafe, Juventus, and Barcelona fast approaching, Xabi Alonso finds himself short of options at the back.

The latest blow comes in the form of summer signing Dean Huijsen, who has now joined the growing injury list.

As such, the defensive department remains a major concern.

With five defenders nursing respective injuries, Real Madrid’s backline is looking thin just 10 days before the trip to Getafe, 12 days before hosting Juventus in the Champions League, and 15 days before the all-important Clásico against Barcelona.

Injury updates: Who could make it back in time?

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined since mid-September. Although his recovery is progressing well, it seems unlikely that he will be fully fit for the Clasico.

Although there is optimism that the Englishman might make the squad, he will ultimately lack match sharpness.

Dani Carvajal, who picked up an injury in late September, faces a similar situation.

His recovery period is expected to last around a month, meaning he could return just in time for the Clasico, though that too remains uncertain.

Antonio Rudiger is the biggest loss of all. The German centre-back has been ruled out for three months and will not return before December, leaving a huge void in the heart of defence.

Dean Huijsen’s injury, fortunately, is less severe. He is expected to be out for around two weeks and could be fit for the Juventus clash at the Santiago Bernabeu if recovery goes as planned.

The most mysterious case is that of Ferland Mendy. The French full-back has not featured under Alonso since the FIFA Club World Cup, and the club has yet to specify the reason for his prolonged absence.

Although his recovery time was initially estimated at around three months, there is still no clear return date, leaving everyone puzzled.
