Liverpool's next transfer could have become clearer with an exciting midfielder catching the eye.

Richard Hughes is expected to prioritise midfield reinforcements during the upcoming summer transfer window as Liverpool face growing uncertainty over several important players in that area of the squad.

One of the biggest concerns surrounds Curtis Jones, whose future at the club remains unclear. With his current contract entering its final year and no significant progress made over a renewal, speculation over a possible departure has intensified.

Liverpool will be wary of allowing the situation to drift further, particularly given Jones’ importance as a homegrown player and his role within the squad rotation. His uncertain future has increased the urgency for the club to reassess both its depth and long-term strategy in midfield.

Questions also remain over Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, despite both players still being contracted until the summer of 2028. While neither player is close to leaving immediately, Liverpool are conscious of the growing interest from elite European clubs and the importance of securing stability around key members of the team.

The situations of the two midfielders is slightly different though.

Szoboszlai is understood to be making encouraging progress in discussions with the club, with optimism growing that an agreement can eventually be reached.

Talks involving Mac Allister, however, have reportedly slowed in recent months, creating some uncertainty about his long-term plans at Anfield.

Interest from elsewhere is only adding to the complexity of the situation. Manchester United and Real Madrid are both believed to be monitoring Mac Allister closely, while Real Madrid have also been linked with Szoboszlai.

Not to mention who knows what will happen to Wataru Endo, and potentially Trey Nyoni could also be heading out on loan.

Considering Liverpool were already short of depth in this department, midfield is likely going to be a huge focus once again.

One of the most intriguing options on the market right now is Lamine Camara. Liverpool have long been admirers of the Senegalese midfielder and he seems like the perfect option.

The club are targeting him right now, and have held talks with his entourage over a move to Anfield. However, Newcastle United are also in the race for his signature.

This season, only Mamadou Sangare (8.01 per 90 minutes) has won possession more times than Camara (7.68 per 90 minutes) in Ligue 1 this season.

The 22-year-old who is a two time AFCON champion, and has won the U20 AFCON as well as CHAN for his country, is not only a serial winner but he's also a phenomenal presser.

Camara is one of the most high intensity players in Europe's top five leagues. He demonstrated that on the final day of the Ligue 1 season.

The Senegalese midfielder anticipated Strasbourg's build-up from the back and sprinted to close down the opposition midfielder. Considering Camara is insanely fast, he got there in no time to intercept the ball and he flew in with a sliding challenge.

That sliding challenge put the ball into the back of the net and opened the scoring for Monaco.

It was a moment that confirmed Camara is ready to join Liverpool. This is the type of midfielder, the Reds need. Someone who flies into challenges, someone who is extremely quick and someone who can press from the front and create goal-scoring opportunities.

It's how Liverpool are going to get back to heavy metal football again, and it's why Camara is an essential piece of the next puzzle Richard Hughes and co. are planning to build at Anfield.
