Sunderland are overhauling their goalkeeping structure, with Florent Ghisolfi pushing higher standards across the club. New roles are being advertised for the under-21s and under-13 to under-18 groups to elevate the Academy of Light.

Sunderland Echo understands the revamp is being overseen by Neil Cutler, with Jonny Maddison set to become his assistant. Two further full-time hires and part-time support are being considered to sharpen detail and development.

Cutler, 49, previously worked with Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa and was Wolves’ goalkeeping coach. His remit is central to modernising first-team and academy provision, with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus keen on a Premier League-level set-up.

Mark Prudhoe, 62, remains a cornerstone and will receive extra support. The Washington-born coach, credited with aiding Jordan Pickford, is set to focus on younger age groups while assisting with loans and scouting.

Simon Moore has extended his deal for another year to provide experience alongside 23-year-olds Robin Roefs and Melker Ellborg. He is completing coaching badges and feeds back to Cutler from within the senior group.

A goalkeeping-specific sports science specialist has joined to tailor preparation, recovery and injury prevention. Table tennis is also used to boost hand-eye coordination and build morale.

Pete Jameson, 33, is expected to take a part-time youth role, with details still to be finalised. Further additions are anticipated to add depth rather than reset a pathway that has produced Anthony Patterson, Matty Young and, historically, Pickford.
