Leicester City’s bleak 25/26 has contrasted with a breakout year for academy midfielder Sammy Braybrooke on loan at Newport County and Chesterfield. His displays have fuelled talk he could influence the King Power midfield next season.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, he made the League Two team of the season after impressing for both clubs. Newport fans have dubbed him the ‘Leicester Iniesta’, and he has been with the Foxes since he was eight.

Chesterfield coach Kieron Dyer said: “I am fortunate to have played at the highest level, and this kid is destined for the top. For me, he’s the best midfielder in the league by a country mile.”

He is seen as an all-rounder. When Leicester recalled him, Newport replaced his passing with Harrison Biggins and his industry with Sven Sprangler. In League Two he made more successful passes than any other midfielder and the most recoveries.

His attitude has been lauded by both fanbases. Ed Bridges believes County would be six or nine points worse without him and says if survival follows, Braybrooke can fairly claim he played his part.

This season follows eight appearances for Dundee in 24/25 after an ACL injury that sidelined him for over 12 months while captain of England’s U19s and on Leicester’s Europa League bench. With Leicester relegated, opportunities for academy graduates may open up, and there is a view he might already have been tested in League One had January’s threat been heeded.
