Inter and Juventus to Shoot Their Shot for Arsenal Star

Riccardo Calafiori isn’t a lock to stay at Arsenal in the summer, and Inter and Juventus are ready to throw their hats into the ring to bring him back to Serie A. Chelsea are also keen, but the Gunners might not want to send him to their rivals, Caught Offside reports.

The defender isn’t playing as consistently as he would like, as he’s been leapfrogged in the pecking order by Piero Hincapié and Myles Lewis-Skelly. He hasn’t asked out, but he’s open to transferring. The 23-year-old has made 29 appearances this season, missing about a month due to a muscular injury. He has started just twice since mid-February.

Inter have reached out to the entourage of Calafiori and see him as a potential replacement for Alessandro Bastoni, but Juventus are plotting an attempt as well. Their owner would like to recreate an Italian backbone, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The chase won’t be easy for the two Serie A franchises. Arsenal shelled out €44M plus add-ons for the former Bologna star, and his valuation hasn’t decreased. The Bianconeri’s rearguard could be in flux in the summer. The officials are looking for at least one starting-caliber player, while one or two of their current contributors, including the fixtures, could be on their way out for financial reasons.

Our Take on Calafiori, Inter, and Juventus

The chances of the two Italian sides will solely hinge on his price tag, as it’ll be very challenging if it gets too high. He’ll predictably have other deep-pocketed suitors abroad if he and the Gunners decide it’s best to part ways. Going from Bastoni to Calafiori would be an interesting transition and could make sense if the numbers are right. Instead, he’d work better as a fullback in Luciano Spalletti’s four-man line.
