Internacional's goal against Flamengo on Wednesday stood after the semi-automatic offside system deemed Carbonero level. Vitinho converted on 26 minutes of the first half in round 21 of the Brasileirão.

According to Globo.com, Alan Patrick released Carbonero through on goal, Rossi saved the Colombian's effort and Vitinho swept in the rebound.

There was brief doubt over Carbonero's position, but with the system active, he was shown to be level with Varela. The calibrated image indicated Varela was playing him on, their heads aligned at the moment of the pass.

Semi-automatic offside was introduced in the Brasileiro from round 20 to speed up decisions and remove doubt. The technology has not ended controversy, particularly on social media.

It was Flamengo's second major call involving the new system. On Sunday at the Maracanã, with the match at 1-1 against São Paulo, Samuel Lino scored what would have been a winner on 45 minutes of the second half.

The technology detected Wallace Yan offside by a few centimetres during the move, and the goal was ruled out. Director José Boto criticised the system's debut.
