Inter and coach Cristian Chivu have imposed a press silence after a contentious 1-1 draw with Atalanta, protesting two key decisions. According to Football Italia, the blackout is aimed at referee Gianluca Mangnaniello and at VAR not overturning those calls.
Francesco Pio Esposito put Inter ahead before half-time. Nikola Krstovic’s equaliser stood despite Inter claims that Kamaldeen Sulemana fouled Denzel Dumfries in the build-up. The hosts later had penalty appeals rejected for Giorgio Scalvini’s contact with Davide Frattesi.
Chivu was sent off for dissent after two quick yellow cards while protesting the decision to allow Krstovic’s goal.
It marks a second setback in a row for the Nerazzurri, whose Serie A lead was cut to seven points by last week’s defeat to Milan. They were also unhappy with calls in the Derby della Madonnina, notably a handball penalty appeal, though the referee’s association said there were no errors.
If Milan beat Lazio tomorrow, the gap will drop further to five points.
